How we're building Kompass, a map of Melbourne's Korean businesses

Kompass started with a simple wish: "I want to see, at a glance, which Korean businesses in Melbourne are worth visiting right now."

What sets it apart from searching 'Korean restaurant' on Google Maps is content and story. Rather than plain search results, it curates "places worth visiting" from an editorial point of view.

The design follows a Mobile First principle. Every element on screen should connect to a user need, and each screen should make the single next action clear.

Data is managed as a static businesses.json file, allowing quarterly updates without any code changes.
